As for all Malaysians, Merdeka means a lot to me. It signifies independence, freedom, togetherness, hope, peace and sovereignty. Merdeka reminds Malaysians of the sacrifices our forefathers made to free our beloved nation and the gratitude we bestow upon them. It reaffirms our love for Malaysia and epitomises ‘1 Malaysia’ perfectly.
To our non-Malaysian readers, Merdeka (meaning Independence or Free) is our National Day. Merdeka celebrates the anniversary of Malaysia’s independence, on 31st August 1957.
This year, Tedboy joined Malaysians in celebrating and honouring 57 years of independence by giving away FREE coffee! All we asked customers to do was express what 'Malaysia' meant to them, during 30th August - 20 September.
Customers who took selfies or posed for our staff at Tedboy Bakery@Telawi, Bangsar or Tedboy Express@The Sphere, Bangsar South, and then tagged their photo on Facebook, received a free cup of coffee (or hot beverage of their choice)!
Even Ted Boy and gave his thoughts!
On Merdeka Day itself, customers came together at Tedboy Bakery@Telawi to express personal, heart-felt messages and bathe in patriotism. Some of our pre-Merdeka customers (including Ted’s grandpa) shared fascinating tales of life before independence, explaining how Merdeka had brought Malaysians together, giving us hope of building the great country that Malaysia is today.
We are truly proud to be Malaysian and wish everyone Selamat Hari Merdeka!
